How do you remove rubber print from clothing?

Rubber prints lose their aesthetic qualities after a long period of use, but this does not mean that our clothes have to go in the bin! There are a couple of methods that can help us get rid of old, ugly prints. The iron method is a very good way of removing the print, and the hair dryer method is also effective. However, if you don't want to interfere with your garment in this way, you can also try the freezer method or the chemical method.

Highlights

  • Removing clothes using home methods is cheaper than taking them to a specialist.

  • For the chemical method, test on a barely visible piece of fabric to see how it works.

  • The best fabrics for removing prints are cotton and polyester

How do I remove a print using an iron?

The iron method is a great way to remove an unwanted print. Thanks to the heat of the iron, the print should come off the fabric easily. If done well, the removal should produce the desired result. The garment from which you want to remove the rubber print should be well prepared. Place a dry towel inside the garment where the print is located, soak a second towel in cold water and squeeze it well. Place the wet towel on the outside of the garment and press so that the entire print is covered. Switch on the iron and iron the wet towel. After ironing for a while, the towel should be dry, then the print is ready to be scraped off. The print can be removed with your fingers or a knife.

The freezer as an effective thing to remove the print

Putting the garment in the freezer is also a simple and minimally invasive way to remove the print. We fold the garment in such a way that the print is on top. Our garment should be in the freezer for about 8 hours. After this time, we can take it out and immediately try to scrape it off with our fingers or a knife, being careful not to damage the fabric.

Dryer method

With this simple object we will be able to easily remove the print from the garment. You will also need a clean cloth for this method. Place the garment on a flat surface (this can be an ironing board or table), place a clean cloth over the print on the outside, then set the dryer on maximum power and heat the print evenly. After heating for a while, the print should come off the garment easily. If it does not, repeat the process until success is achieved.

Using chemicals - a risky but effective option

This is a frequently used method for removing different types of prints and can also be effective when removing rubber prints. You will need isopropyl alcohol or nail polish remover (with acetone) and a cloth to apply the chemical to the print. Apply the chemical to the cloth, then wipe the cloth over the print, once the chemical has been applied to the print, wait until the chemical is absorbed and attempt to scrape the print. The process can be repeated if no effect is achieved.

Summary

Rubber prints on clothing can lose their appeal after a while, but there are several effective methods for removing them. The iron method uses high heat to soften the print, which can then be easily scraped off. A hair dryer works similarly, evenly heating the print we should be able to remove the print easily. Alternatively, a freezer makes the print brittle and easy to remove. Chemicals such as isopropyl alcohol or nail polish remover can also help, but require caution not to damage the fabric.
